Slowdown in Irish IT job market?
Well, we have all heard the “market gurus” - the job market is slowing down, multinationals are moving their service centres out of Ireland, doom and gloom for the Irish economy, yada yada yada.
I have not doubt that some of this is based on factual information and there is an element of truth to it all - however does this apply to all sectors? Having previously worked in the recruitment industry for many years and in various sectors, I have to say I am not so sure about the job market slowing down for IT professionals. It is a fact that highly skilled professionals with a specialist skill set will always be in demand, purely because there is not enough of these people around. Regardless of a slowing economy a highly skilled developer will always be in demand, particularly in Ireland where a career in I.T. was not the traditional route (accountancy anyone?) and only now are we getting a sense of a developer community. Long may it continue.
So, slowdown in Irish IT Job market? I will let Charlie Taylor answer:
“More than a 120 new jobs are to be created on the island of Ireland after two tech-related firms announced plans to take on additional employees.
Despite warnings of a slowdown in the global economy, multinationals are continuing to invest in facilities both in the Republic and in the North. This week, ServiceSource and Fidessa became the latest companies to expand their operations locally. “
