The Worst IT Jobs?
Just came across an InfoWorld article about the 7 Dirtiest Jobs in IT. I was hoping for jobs that involved actual dirt (Pig Farming Analyst? Refuse Management Application Developer?), but except for #1 it was mainly just unpleasant jobs. Here’s the list:
7: Legacy systems archaeologist (COBOL Developer)
4: Interdepartmental peace negotiator (IT Project Manager)
3: Enterprise espionage engineer (black ops)
2: Datacenter migration specialist
1: Sludge systems architect
Funny idea, but I’m not sure that the list is all that accurate (at least as far as IT jobs in Ireland go). COBOL developer isn’t the hippest job title in the IT world, but there seem to be a lot of people happily employed doing just that, working for many of the Financial Services companies or the National Lottery. And sure, it’s true that PM’s can sometimes get caught in an interdepartmental shitstorm, but that somewhat akin to complaining that programmers get stuck having to debug code- being able to do this stuff is central to the job. On the other hand, probably fair to say that no one really likes working on the help desk.
